Colcrys Drug and Medication User Reviews

Nothing seems to work without involving Colcrys. It treats active attacks well in combination with indocin and allopurinol.

have been taking colchicine for more than 30 years--went from being in hospital 8 to 10 times each year to maybe once in 5 years! Now comes along Colcrys and my RX only covers this "new' med. at more 3x's the cost! Time to call my legislators big Pharma are thieves.

Back pain (kidneys) went away after starting this a week later. Lessens the attacks also and makes them less harsh on the body.

Only thing that works kinda fast if it is prescribed as colcrys you can go to the colcrys website and download a coupon and it will cost you $15 for 30 pills

Works effectively. Gout gone in 48 Hours. However it plays hell with the digestive tract.

Eliminated the gout symptoms, but caused diarrhea. I take only 1 pill per day and only if the gout tries a come back. Also, I stop taking my statin drug when taking colcrys. I take the generic type of the drug.

Worked great. Then I lost the extra help paying for my prescriptions. Went to pick up the script, with insurance it was going to cost $170 a month. CRAP

My father is 84 years old, they prescribed this to him w/out telling us of the side effects...when his stomach, legs, testicals all swelled up, severe stomach pain, severe diarrhea, severe vomiting. We took him back to hospital, they admitted him for a week and couldn't tell us what was wrong with him. We took him home and he got weaker and sicker(taking Colcrys 2x a day).We took him to a hospital 4 hrs away and they were able to tell us it was the Colcrys that was killing him. The Doc at new hospital said he would never prescribe this unless a gout patient was begging in a last resort effort because it is so hard on the stomach. Had we been warned of these side effects we would have stopped the medication immediately...had we not taken my dad to another hospital he would have continued this medication and most likey would have died as his body was shutting down and he had another week and a half of this medication to take. This just happened and I am not done with the hospital or the doctor that did this to my father!!! Do not take this medication!!!!

This pill is small and low impact. If you pop 3 in a day it will hurt though. I would only Max out at 2 pills per 24 hours and that only for the first day or two. It stopped gout in it's tracks for me. Obviously when taking this pill its important to adjust your diet to a low purine, to make sure your body can flush out the bad and not have it all replaced right away. Also... here is a tip for Gout sufferers. Drink plenty of Tart Cherry Juice / Water blend to get the crystals our of your blood stream. this really works especially combined with the medication. Your foot should be back to normal in 48 hours, but make sure to maintain the low purine diet after.

I was diagnosed with the inflammation of the covering of the heart 2 months after my open heart surgery. I was given this medication at the ER and my cardiologist want me to stay on it for 3 months. it's been 6 weeks. I don't have any side effects.

I had my first gout flare-up back in 2012. The directions indicate one pill every hour for only three hours. After the third dose I decided to take another pill, it was then that I came to find out about the worst diarrhea I have ever experienced, accompanied by burning and stinging around the ol bung hole. On day two I only took one pill and the pain from the gout (left big toe ) started to go away. The next day the gout was gone and no more diarrhea. For me the drug is ok, I just wish the diarrhea wasn't so damn violent. So when I get a flare up I don't take more than three pills a day. The trots are annoying, but at least I can walk.

On the plus side: no more swelling in my foot, ankle, rt index, knee. Saying goodbye to redness, heat and the accompanying pain is wonderful. Weight loss. The price is awful. So awful I had to be confined to bed, pretty much 24/7 for 3 weeks before I gave in. The number of trips to bathroom was so frequent and urgent I didn't dare even leave the house. I worry about the speed of weight loss just not enough too stop taking it. The price sucks!

I took Colcrys for a number of years after URL Pharma got the approval from the FDA to market Colcrys as a proprietary drug. The price is $5-$6 per tablet and I have to take 4 per day to stay free of attacks. I had been happy with Watson colchicine for almost a decade, but Colcrys did not work as well. Now Takeda is carrying this drug. Even though NO research was done on Familial Mediterranean Fever, Colcrys is the only drug FMF patients can use for 7 years. Gout patients can use other drugs now. This is very unfair. My Medicare plan covers neither. I am going through Canada to get Turkish colchicine. I can get 120 enteric coated pills for around $40.00 plus shipping. I buy three months at a time. I noted all the gout patients who complained of diarrhea and cramping. Colcrys (and all other brands) cause lactose intolerance. It is unbelievable that patients are not advised about that and all the drugs Colcrys interacts with.

October 28th, 2015 I was diagnosed with pericarditis caused by an unknown virus, possibly adverse reaction to flu virus or common cold virus, as a 43-year-old. Colcrys was prescribed by ER doctor. As I was also anemic, I was prescribed iron pills as well. Colcrys did elevate the swelling after taking Colcrys for 3 months. After an MRI, the doctor felt my pericarditis was clear, but two weeks later in March 2015, the pain was back. Another cardiologist took a blood test and inflammation was apparent in my blood, so he re-prescribed the Colcrys. I believe I haven't had many of the side effects others have because of my iron pills, which cause constipation; however, the past two days I have been feeling extremely exhausted. It is really hard to know whether it is the lack of iron, or a side effect of Colcrys, so I will have to make an appointment to see a doctor, but overall, I'd say Colcrys achieved the effect it was supposed to have. I reached my deductible with the hospital stay at Abbott and lovely ride in the ambulance, but I am fearing the end of my fiscal year after reading others posts. I am also concerned about the long-term affects of liver damage and wonder if the generic version was less damaging?

The old generic version was only about 10 cents a tablet. It worked great but was a LITTLE hard on the stomach. That drug is NOT available any longer and new version is $8.00 a tablet... WTF????

works great but insurance company doesn't want me to take it.

This medication on 3 times a day for the first 2 weeks caused severe sudden diarreha but overall I needed to reduce the amount to 2 and then 1 per day..........I took all 60 pills to finally get the pain and its cause which was definitely incredibly painful gout to go away......I do wish the medicine manufacturers could invent a pill that acts much quicker than this one. I could not put on a shoe as the gout was in the base of my big toe and the inflammation was red hot and very swollen. I am now confused as to what I should have really done as I could hardly walk and it took approximately 2 and 1 half months to go away.

Severe gout pain behind left big toe! Prescribed just three pills taken within one hour of each other and pain is gone! Worked wonderfully, no side effects felt. Would use again!
