My doctor wisely started me on the lowest dose--50 mg twice a day--to supplement Diovan since I was having frequent palpitations. On the fifth day, my scalp began tingling oddly and it hurt to touch my head or comb my hair. I had muscular pain in both arms and some nausea and discomfort in my stomach. I was tired all the time--occasionally dizzy--affecting my work. My doctor told me to stop immediately, stating that some people cannot tolerate beta blockers. I will be starting a new drug this week to address the palpitations. the side effects would seem to outweigh any benefit of this medication.

This is the only medicine that has completely cured my trichotillomania, that is, my hair pulling. I take it at night which greatly minimizes the fatigue from Valium, while still working as well. Since I was 14, I've pulled or cut or picked my split ends, sometimes resulting in bald patches, because of my obsessive compulsive disorder.I stumbled across valium after trying zoloft, prozac, wellbutrin, and several other drugs. I was prescribed valium for surgery and has a very pleasant side effect - a complete cureall for my OCD! Do you know what a good feeling it is to be able to grow out your hair again? I am very pleased this worked for me but I don't know why because they do not traditionally prescribe this drug for trich. NOTHING else worked at all. I do not take illegal drugs or smoke, by the way. The last time I've gone this long without pulling my hair was five years ago. I have never been so happy...in five years. :-)

As has been said, suffering the allergies (or the drowsiness of benadryl) is better than the scary miseries of Claritin for me. I feel so foolish now for having treated its side effects (thinking they were the allergies) by taking more and more of it (going from 10mg to 20mg, and finally 30mg a day). What a colossal waste of money and peaceful sleep!

As a paramedic, I have used versed often to treat patients who are already psychotic or violent, to chemically sedate them, so they can be restrained and transported safely in the ambulance. It is the standard of care here. But it is given in conjunction with Haldol. I have never seen MY patients react like this. Maybe it's the Haldol that helps. After reading other posts, I DON'T FEEL ALONE!!! OBVIUOSLY it's not that uncommon with underlying anxiety! I had a follow-up appointment with my ortho today, and when I mentioned this to him, he starred at me blankly like I was crazy. Obviously he didn't think anything of it. But then again, he has been a passive asshole in my treatment for the last 4 years.As a medical provider - I would like to be contacted if someone is actually doing clinical research in this area, or has more clinical research as to this unfortunate side effect!!!
