Colyte: Uses, Side Effects, Warnings, and Dosing Information

Generic Name: Colyte (polyethylene-glycol-3350-with-electrolytes)

Colyte Reviews

For Bowel Preparation "First off, this stuff smells horibble. I nearly gag at just the smell of it. The last is just as bad. I find if I take a sip of something else first (I use iced tea) then just chug the glass full, then take another couple Swallows of my iced tea, it's tolerable. It starts working in about 2 hours and honestly, I only drink half of the whole 4L jug. No need to continue drinking in when you're already shitting clear fluid. You'd think they would have something more of a one glass full type of medication or even a pill for a laxative instead of 4L of water."

For Bowel Preparation "Five or six years ago, I used Colyte for a colonoscopy prep in a split dose with one half gallon the night before and the rest the morning of my procedure. Worked well, with a start about one hour after initial drink. About a year later for my wife's colonoscopy, the fist half gallon the night before did nothing. She took the remainder the morning of her procedure. It started working and she was going even as she arrived for her procedure. For my next colonoscopy, I see that some doctors now prescribe 2 tabs of bisacodyl, a stimulant laxative, two hours prior to the first dose of Colyte to make sure that the first dose works when taken and not much later."

For Bowel Preparation "Doctor gave me a gallon of Colyte to drink, my workplace boss offered to pay me $100 if I could drink the entire gallon - my boss still has the $100. As for effectiveness Colyte got the job done but it does taste awful mixing with crystal light lemonade mix helps with taste."

For Bowel Preparation "The smell and taste is so foul that I gagged so much that I could not continue after two glasses. Vomiting would have been next. Had to cancel my colonoscopy."

For Bowel Preparation "Awful taste, disgusting, painful to drink. Effective but hard to swallow, kind of pineapple taste that smells bad."
