Emollients topical for Dry Skin Reviews

CeraVe (emollients) "I used CeraVe moisturizers for 8 months to treat dryness on my face. In that time, my skin became increasingly red, inflamed, itchy, and dry—so dry, in fact, that it would crack and bleed at times. I'm over 40, and I have never had eczema, but now I had it all over my face, and soon spots were popping up all over my back, arms, and legs. CeraVe was always recommended as being 'safe,' so I trusted it, but the day I stopped using CeraVe products completely, my symptoms improved. In lieu of a patch test, I have a reason to believe I am allergic to 'tocopherol' (Vitamin E) found in every CeraVe product I used. (Not surprisingly, many foods that caused marked flare-ups also contained tocopherols) I am now using another moisturizer that does not contain tocopherol but uses oatmeal instead. My skin is slowly getting better, but it will be weeks if not months before I am fully recovered. I hope this information can help someone."

CeraVe (emollients) "I was told to use this by my dermatologist. It’s been about a month, and it was working great! The last couple of days, my cheeks have been red and splotchy, my chin is getting eczema spots, and tonight my cheeks felt like they were on fire. I thought it was because I was in the cold today, so I put more on, it was instant stinging and heat on my cheeks. I washed it off, and it relieved the feeling almost 99%. So disappointed!"

CeraVe (emollients) "I used CeraVe lotion all over my body and broke out in hives! Everywhere I scratch, there were lines raised-definitely an allergic reaction. They should put something on the bottle saying that there is a chance that you could be allergic to this type of lotion. But they make it sound so benign. I'm absolutely miserable, and it's been 4 days since I applied the CeraVe lotion. Still have hives. 5 showers later!"

CeraVe (emollients) "Started using CeraVe Facial Moisturizer as I had been using their under-eye cream and had gotten good results with it. But what a surprise that after only 3 days of using it twice a day, the skin around my cheeks, nose, and mouth developed a horrible and itchy rash, which my dermatologist later confirmed was contact dermatitis. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who has very sensitive skin."

Dermasil Lotion (emollients) "I have used Dermasil lotion, from the Dollar Tree, day and night versions, for years, using most days. Since 2006, I have been having VERY bad allergic reactions (very swollen, red, itchy, scaly, peeling DRY, tight skin on my upper eyelids and below! Then determined I was allergic to shellac, an ingredient in mascara. But the issue keeps coming back even though I haven't worn mascara in over 5 years! In early December 2020, I FiNALLY stopped using Dermasil, to see what would happen, after a very bad 4-week bout, and magically, in one day of no use, my facial/eye area was almost back to being ME! Will never be using this product again."

CeraVe (emollients) "Experienced bad facial redness and itching 2 days after CeraVe products. This product may be advertised as developed with Dermatologists but it doesn't mean it is any good! I have written to the company and asked for a refund. I will wait and see if they reply."

CeraVe (emollients) "I used CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser on and off for a week. After a week of finally figuring out why my neck was burning and prickly itchy, it dawned on me. I just started using CeraVe. Do not buy if you have sensitive skin. This stuff basically just burned my skin. I have huge patches of what looks like I burned my skin with scalding water on both sides of my neck. The only thing now that releases it is cool water. If not better in a week, I'll have to go to the doctor. This is awful stuff."

EpiCeram (emollients) "I have suffered from eczema all over my face, neck, and upper body. Nothing worked, and I had to moisturize every 15-30 minutes throughout the day. Two years ago, I stopped using topical steroids and had a serious rebound effect of worsening eczema. Since then, it's been manageable but has never improved. I've tried changing my diet, going organic, using different moisturizers, bleach baths, Bactroban, etc. It was hard to get the prescription as this is a product that not many doctors are familiar with. In two weeks, I almost finished the 90g tube, but my skin improved so much! My face is baby smooth. I could go for 8 hours without moisturizer! I finally have hope again. It still itches, but the skin quality has drastically improved. There were no side effects. And no more steroids!"

Blistex Lip Balm (emollients) "I’ve used Raspberry Lemonade Blistex for a year now with no problem. Two months ago I developed raw skin around my lips (on my skin) plus chapped lips. They cracked and burned for three weeks. I didn’t make the connection to the blistex as I was also using other lip balms. I finally stopped all products and they healed in a week. Just today I applied the raspberry blistex and in one hour I had bright red skin around my mouth. I found my allergy trigger! I love the taste and I’m pretty bummed. I’m curious to know which ingredient is giving me the reaction in case it’s in other products."

Cetaphil Cleanser (emollients) "Started using cetaphil face cleanser in January 2021 & till this time never snapped that the cleanser was giving me red, swollen, itchy very dry eyes and some pain. Lips also chapped & swollen. Went to see a specialist & he asked what have I been using new to my face. Felt like an idiot when I snapped it’s the freaking cetaphil. Came home & threw the product in the trash & now taking meds to recover"

Aquaphor (emollients) "I had a very bad reaction to a strong steroid cream used to treat my Lupus facial rash. I had to go off of it cold turkey and I developed Red Skin Syndrome. This is the only product that moisturizes my face without hurting or burning. It’s actually healing my skin. All other products made my condition worse."

CeraVe (emollients) "Used CeraVe as I heard it was good for sensitive/dry/eczema-prone skin. After a couple of days of using the cleanser and moisturizer, my face and neck broke out in tiny red itchy bumps ALL OVER. It wasn't patches, it was a rash completely covering my skin - never had anything like it before. I stopped using immediately. Solved it by washing my skin with only water for the next week or so and used hydrocortisone cream mixed in with my Aveeno moisturizer all over the affected area. So disappointed, but obviously some products don't work for everyone. I suggest you take care and patch test if you're considering buying!"

Dermasil Lotion (emollients) "Applied this product one time and went into anaphylactic shock three hours later after it absorbed into my skin. The product not only gave me severe hives and difficulty breathing, but also gave me chemical burns and blisters that may leave permanent scarring. My doctors said this product could have killed me the reaction was so severe. I contacted Dermasil after seeing 6 doctors and still receiving medical treatment 20 days later, and they could not have cared less."

Blistex Lip Balm (emollients) "I have used Blistex for years and never had a problem. I tried the Orange Mango blast and ended up having to go to a dermatologist because it just kept getting worse. I had no idea what had caused it, but when I started using the lip balm again about a month later I had the same issue: swollen, itchy, burning lips. I will never use this again,, and it should be taken off the market!"

EpiCeram (emollients) "My partner has suffered from severe facial eczema for the past few years, far worse than she had ever experienced before. We tried everything, from dietary interventions to Elidel to various steroids. We were truly growing quite desperate, as the eczema was so severe it was limiting my partner's ability to go out, work, or even smile and laugh. EpiCeram has completely turned her condition around, to the point where the facial eczema is almost totally eliminated. The results were far beyond what I even dared hope for."

Blistex Lip Balm (emollients) "The same experience everyone is having. I was worried there for a minute because I couldn't find any answers to why I was getting the same issues some of these ladies had. There is something in this product that is making us allergic to it. Yes, it dried out my lips so bad. Yes, they got red, swollen, and whatever chemical is in this lip balm is no good. I'm still recovering from burnt lips. This product needs to be removed immediately from every store that sells this awful product."

Dermasil Lotion (emollients) "This lotion says it is Hypo-Allergenic yet one of the ingredients is methyllisothiazolinone, which was voted by the dermalogical society as the number one Allergen of 2013. It is usually used in shampoos and liquid soap but to have it in a lotion in terrible. If you aren't allergic, you may become allergic with continued usage. Beware. This lotion has too much water in it for very dry skin. Go with a cream. The package says to recycle but isn't marked for USA recycling."

CeraVe (emollients) "Found several CeraVe products in a rarely used cabinet and called to inquire about viability. Had the original boxes and stamped codes. The products were Vitamin C and Resurfacing Retinol which contain active ingredients. I was informed they only give out beauty advice and no expiration info. Really???? Active ingredients don’t last forever and never had a company refuse that info. Told me to call corporate and gave me a number which connected to L’Oreal. No answer. Even after several tries. So that is my recent experience with CeraVe which I have used faithfully for many years. No more. And I will spread the word."

CeraVe (emollients) "I have used CeraVe for my diabetics dry skin only once and it was a disaster . The dry skin began to peel off and my leg began to bleed and it was painful.....never again. The tube of Cera Ve has no warning of these conditions and the matter should be reported."

Mederma (emollients) "I used this Mederma for my old scar, and then after 1 day, I noticed itchiness and peeling of the skin in the area, so I thought it's normal. On the third day, I stopped using this cream. It's a nightmare! Instead of removing my scar, this Mederma only makes it worse."

EpiCeram (emollients) "I have suffered with atopic dermatitis (moderate-severe) for 10 years. The inflammation and itchiness have been non-stop. My skin has been red and inflamed on my face, neck, arms, hands, and most of my body. Often, my skin has become so damaged from itching and scratching that various regions of my skin have split, such as my eyelids, neck, and knuckles. I have used EpiCeram for 1 week, and all the redness has nearly cleared up, and there are no splits at all. I feel great! I can sleep comfortably. I can shower without the pain of water stinging my damaged skin. I can exercise again without sweat causing burning. I highly recommend this cream."

CeraVe (emollients) "Bought CeraVe moisturizing cream at Costco after my dermatologist told me I have very dry skin. I’ve been using it pretty much everywhere including my face. After a week of using daily I woke up with hives showing up everywhere! Didn’t even think the hives were related to the new cream. Had hives again today so I have to admit it is the culprit! Took Benadryl and will have to take another."

Blistex Lip Balm (emollients) "My daughter used the orange mango smoothie lip balm last night and her lips are twice their normal size. They are itchy and painful. She has either had an allergic reaction or there is something seriously wrong with this product - having just now read all of these comments about allergic reactions. Blistex needs to pull these off the shelf and investigate what ingredient they used that is causing so many reactions. Don’t use this product."

CeraVe (emollients) "I used CeraVe for two days and my face looks horrible !! I've never seen my face the way it looks. Theres a rash all over and I'm so insecure now. I feel like everyone keeps looking at me. I don't know what to do"

EpiCeram (emollients) "I have been stripping my skin with high-end acids/Retin-A/over-exfoliant for years. I was extremely dry and flaky. My skin started to react to any extreme temperature or touch. I stripped the barrier of my skin, and it was always angry. My derm gave me this for dermatitis. It took a few weeks, but all my issues have disappeared. I am afraid to use anything else. It isn’t greasy, and at times I feel like I need more moisture. However, I resist adding anything more than this cream. I can’t find the reason why this is by Rx only, though?!"
