This drug should not be given to anyone without the doctor notifying family/friends of potential side effects. Close monitoring of patient during initial phase of taking drug is vital. Lives are lost on this drug. Doctors should prescribe this drug with extreme caution. Successful suicides result.

I was on this medication for one month. I had taken the old Sular for eight years, then it was no longer available. I thought my symptoms were from other things until I learned that this medication was a completely different formulation than the old Sular. I would have spells of pain going all over me and then my arms and legs would hurt real bad. Then, my head would start hurting and then would not stop. I had no idea what was causing my symptoms as I am a fairly healthy 75 year old with no arthritis and never have a headache. It also was not controlling my blood pressure. I stopped taking the new Sular and all my symptoms subsided in two days. I went back to my doctor and he said that my symptoms were not the cause of my symptoms when I knew they were. I am a nurse and a fairly intelligent and reasonable person. I demanded another medication. I have not been able to take too many blood pressure medications because of the side effects. the first 2 days on macrobid were shaky. I had nausea, was extremely tired, lightheaded, and had one case of my right leg going numb! I read about the side effects on this website and it made me very scared but, I decided to endure the medication by taking GOOD CARE of MYSELF... instead of continuing my bad eating and drinking habits that made me get this UTI in the first place. I am currently on day 5. In the past 3 days I have drank about 3 gallons of water, 1 gallon of cranberry juice, and 1 1/2 gallons of gatorade (electrolytes)..I have also made sure to take my medicine on a completely FULL stomach, have taken an iron supplement with each dose, one B12 supplement each day and have eaten nothing but healthy foods to fill my stomach. I have also gotten a lot of rest over the course of the past 5 days. The only side effect from the Tricor for the first year was minor tiredness and muscle fatigue. During the 2nd year I began to experience joint pain in both knees and then the pain expanded to all joints. By the end of the 2nd year I moved like an old man always after setting (almost total body soreness). The soreness would lessen while moving, but I have a desk job. The fatigue increased and I needed naps throughout the day when possible, but I am still working. Toward the end of the 2nd year the bone pain began. I got fed up and quit taking Tricor.
