Though this is my first use of Symproic, I used a different opioid antagonist about a year ago. It was absolute hell. I had horrible cramps and pain, and could not pass anything. It turned out I was impacted but didn't know I. One trip to the ER later where they disimpacted me (another horrible experience), I put out a ton of waste. I never used that med again. Recently I've had a large distension in my belly which x-rays showed was a fecal mass. My GI doctor met me in the ER, checked me out and gave me an injection of Relistor. That went fine. The doctor told me I needed to be on an antagonist regularly so I started Symproic today. I was panicked to try it but I pushed myself. No cramping, no pain and no withdrawal symptoms. Had a BM within 45 minutes. I plan to continue on Symproic hoping to reduce this belly distension. I know I can't go on with continued constipation and my medical situation requires opiates right now. I may need to use a softener to avoid the cramping that comes with hard stool.
How this drug was released to the public is beyond criminal. I took one pill and it about killed me. Two days in the hospital after vomiting and diarrhea, still have burning throughout my intestines and feels like a knife being jammed in my stomach every ten minutes. Do NOT take this drug.
Worked for my OIC. Better than Movantik since less withdrawal SE. Definite cramping preceding BM, but relieved with passing stool and gas. Stool still hard and pebble-like, so I expect I'll supplement with MOM +/- Senna+ fiber. Works relatively quickly. Definite benefit and worth dealing with cramps. Senna, MOM, Miralax all together do not reliably work as well as one Symproic tab. Plus mechanism of action specific for etiology of constipation, so physiological effects. Have to see if benefit persists over time. So far after one week, so good.
12 years of opioid pain management for scoliosis, 18-level spinal fusion all bolted into the back of my pelvis. Chronic constipation pre-dated opioid prescriptions/use by at least a decade due to spinal cord and nerve root crush. Took my first and last dose of Symproic Friday evening, it is now Sunday 10 PM. I can't believe I survived. Racing heart, abdominal pain, vomiting. Initially I evacuated, but ended up having to rely on colonic irrigation to finally empty my colon. I will be returning to colonic irrigation and stool softeners as my standard treatment. The side effects are unacceptable.
Worked mediocre for me, from the beginning. No great results or flushing of my system. A little is all it ever helped me. Very easy to take, one tiny pill 1 time daily.
This drug sent me to the hospital for 4 days. Severe abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. I thought I was going to die. Do not take this drug.
I have been on opiate meds for chronic pain for over 5 years. I had been managing my opiate related constipation on my own with some difficulty. On the 7th day dose of this medication I was sent to the hospital. I could not go but was vomiting turned beet red and blood pressure went up to 203/100. I was shaking hard and couldnt get warm w/ severe abdominal pain. No blockage found. I think it sent me into severe withdrawls. This is the day after coming home and I still have the shakes. DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. It almost killed me
Sumproic worked for me in the beginning. However, it does not soften stools. Stools are hard and difficult to push. I have to take Miralax and Magnesiun Oxide along with Symproic. I also became quickly tolerant (within 2 weeks) and doesn't work at all without Miralax. Too expensive for dry hard stools despite drinking 65 oz of water, prune juice, papayas etc. The worst part is that I have to supplement w/other stool softening laxatives.
I really don't know how PurduePharma got the FDA to approve Symproic 0.2 MG, for OIC. I’ve been taking Movantic 25 MG daily, and have had bowel movements daily. I asked my pain clinic doctor, if there was something else, we could try; and he told me about Symproic 0.2 MG. Long and short, I tried it, and DID NOT; have a bowel movement, for FOUR DAYS. My stomach hurt, and I felt backed up; had stomach discomfort, but NO URGE, to have a bowel movement; I just had gas. The next morning (After four days!), I went back to Movantic 25 MG, with my morning coffee, and within 15 minutes, I had to trot to the bathroom! For the next hour, I’m sure; I emptied my entire colon! It’s unreal, that the FDA approved Symproic 0.2 MG!!!! There is VERY LITTLE, to research, since the drug was released on 03/23/2017. Movantic 25 MG was working great; I should have left, well enough alone! Symproic 0.2 MG sounded great: you can take it with or without food; at any time; they can KEEP IT!!! Don’t try it, you’ll back up quickly!!!!
