Azithromycin Dose Pack: Uses, Side Effects, Warnings, and Dosing Information

Generic Name: Azithromycin Dose Pack (azithromycin)

Azithromycin Dose Pack Reviews

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I am on day 2 of the 5-day dose pack. Relief from upper respiratory symptoms has been rapid and effective. 48 hours ago, I was having severe coughing fits, sneezing, painful sinus pressure, lethargy, blocked nasal passages, unable to lie down without inducing severe bouts of coughing. 36 hours ago, I took the loading dose, and 12 hours ago, the day 2 dose. My cough is all but gone, I am able to breathe normally, my voice is back nearly to normal, the sinus pressure is gone, and I have stopped taking the decongestant I was using. This afternoon, I went out shopping. I have noticed no side effects, other than mild nausea after the day 1 dose, which may or may not have been from the medicine. This is my second highly positive experience with this medicine."

For Pneumonia "I developed pneumonia after being treated in the hospital for an anaphylactic allergic response. Within a few days, my oxygen was down to 92%. I was almost hospitalized, but begged the doc to let me stay out as it was 5 days until Christmas. I was prescribed a 5-day Z-Pak (Azithromycin). Today is day 3, I'm finally starting to feel better. The only side effects so far have been slightly loose stools and a rapid pulse. (I'm 35 and otherwise healthy.) I find I got stomach pains within an hour of taking it, so today I ate before I took it and that helped."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I haven't taken an antibiotic for several years because I haven't had a bacterial infection. Over a month ago, I came down with a virus, but in retrospect, it soon evolved into a secondary sinus infection. I respect the avoidance of antibiotics unless symptoms clearly point to bacterial infections, and I was not running a fever, and what my sinus produced did not look foul enough. However, when this didn't abate after close to 5 weeks, even my internist agreed it might be a rare low-grade bacterial infection and gave the green light to try an antibiotic. I started it the day before yesterday, and by last night, it was the first time in 4 1/2 weeks I got relief from the non-stop post-nasal glob driving me crazy. It couldn't have been more dramatic."

For Bacterial Infection "I took it for strep throat and didn’t have any side effects. My throat got worse on the second day but then got better. (Even when it looked worse, it didn’t hurt as bad as it did before.) My doctor sold it for $1.50. He doesn’t take insurance and gives his patients the cost he pays. (Yes, those types of practices exist and are sometimes cheaper than what you pay with insurance, and they actually care about their patients.)"

For Bronchitis "I had been having a mild sporadic cough for a week and a half before I started having the 'under the weather' cold feeling. It started in my chest and was accompanied by body aches, a sore throat, and a headache from a dry cough. After two days of dry cough and developing laryngitis from coughing so much, it moved up into my nasal area, where I started finally experiencing mucus. By the third day, I was feeling like crap and had no real appetite. So, I went to the local clinic. I was diagnosed with a cold, bronchitis, and laryngitis. I was prescribed a 5-day antibiotic treatment of 250 mg. The first day, I had nausea, diarrhea, and a racing heartbeat for a couple of hours. I started feeling better after 2 days, kept taking the antibiotic, the side effects went away, and so did the cold. Fast."

For Sinusitis "Had a terrible sinus infection. Got on a Z-pack. It takes until day 3 before you really start feeling like it's working. The pack continues to work 10 days after you finish it. I had no tummy problems like I have read on other postings, but I do make sure to eat yogurt every day when I am on any type of antibiotic. The probiotics in yogurt can keep you from getting loose stools. The one thing that I did notice this time was some dizziness. Never before had that with taking a Z-pack. It was not severe dizziness, but enough to make me wonder."

For Sinusitis "Sinusitis was so bad that my teeth even hurt. Now on day 2 of azithromycin, pain about 80% resolved. Absolutely no side effects. Have taken azithromycin in the past for sinusitis and consistently note resolution prior to completion of 5-day pack."

For Sinusitis "This azithromycin antibiotic is the best! I’m a first grade teacher and seem to get sick easily even with homeopathic medicines and extreme hygienic practices. It starts with sore throat then congestion in nose and throat. Excessive phlegm development and coughing. I try OTC first NYQUIL Mucinex and Vick’s rub, but the 5 day azithromycin Z pack always gets rid of it! I worry about being on it now 2x a year but I heard it is less harmful or strong as others so it’s safe."

For Middle Ear Infections "I have an ear and throat infection on my left side. My Doctor prescribed zythromycin for 5 days. I have been suffering each day now and the zythromycin is NOT working. It is day 4 now and still feel like day 1. Doctor noted no improvement but still wants me to finish all doses."

For Bronchitis "Took the 5-day Z-pack for this bronchitis I have had for a month now. After the 1st day, I felt great, but then downhill from there. 6 days after finishing it, I wound up in the E.R., they gave the Z-pack again... much to my chagrin. I finished it 3 days ago, and while I have more energy, my cough is still bad. I know the infection is still there, my white blood cell count is high at 18,000, but they also put me on Prednisone, which causes a high white blood cell count. So they can't differentiate/determine the cause of the high white count, whether infection or prednisone. Chest x-ray shows bronchitis. Friends who've had bronchitis are suggesting Bactrim, I will discuss this with my doctor."

For Bronchitis "I was prescribed and took the Azithromycin pack (Z Pack) when I came down with an acute case of bronchitis. It was the traditional 2 pills at the first dose, and then 1 pill each following day. I started to feel a noticeable improvement by day 3, and was nearly completely better 7-8 days later. The medicine definitely worked for me, however, the side effects were strongly unpleasant. I had severe stomach pains, along with diarrhea, even when I did take the pills with food. Since the pills work for 10 days, I had the side effects for that long too. Overall though, I'm happy I took the Z Pack and it helped cure me quickly."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I was prescribed a 250 mg, 5-day dose pack of Azithromycin for an upper respiratory infection. Dosing: 2 tabs 1st day, then 1 per day for 3 days. Took 2 tabs 1st day, no problem. 2nd day, 1 tab in the morning before driving to a family reunion. Almost immediate intermittent left upper chest pain. No other symptoms of a heart attack. Chewed 2 aspirin after lunch - only slight relief. Returned home in the evening and found cardiac symptoms listed on dose pack descriptions. Discontinued taking Azithromycin and had no recurrence of chest pains 3rd day to date. Ten days later, I had an electrocardiogram done and results were normal."

For Sinusitis "Although there should be no negative drug interaction with this antibiotic and other medication I take daily, I had a severe allergic reaction: swelling of throat and tongue, vertigo and dizziness, bad taste in my mouth (even days after), and vomiting. I'm on my third day of the medication now and still feel sick and 'weird.' My throat and tongue are no longer swollen, but all my muscles hurt, and my skin feels painful, also major headache, and very sleepy."

For Sinusitis "I've taken this for every URI I've ever had and feel better after first dose. No side effects. I love it. My new doctor won't prescribe it for me for some reason. Well, she's either a PA or a NP. That may have something to do with it. I know what works and is easy to take and doesn't RIP my guts out and keeps working long after the last dose is taken. I highly recommend this"

For Bronchitis "I am allergic to amoxicillin so the only thing that I get prescribed is the z-pack! I like it that the dose pack is pre-dosed for you!! Within a few days I feel better! I usually get the lower dose! So by day 5! I feel 85%. I like it when it stays in my system even after taking the last dose!"

For Pneumonia "Was started on this in the ER at time of diagnosis. After three days and only negligible improvement I returned to the ER. This time I was given an IV of Rocephin and by the end of the day I could see huge improvements. Not sure why they don't culture and match the right drug."

For Bacterial Infection "I found the generic Greenstone Brand 250mg tablet, NDC 59762-3060-1 to not be effective! In the past I have taken the brand name Zithromax Z-Pak and by the third dose I knew I was recovering from my illness. Since starting the GS brand I have experienced unusual tiredness, voice hoarseness, & an increase in a stuffy, mucus filled nose. Completed RX as instructed, not improved any. I feel it should be pulled from the insurance companies list of generic azithromycins!!"

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "Started this 250mg tabs 5 days ago, finished all today! Began it with a non productive cough! After first dose of (2 tabs), then (1) a day for 4 days. I had fever-like-symptons, tired, severe anxiety and now have finished all. Now I have been coughing up YELLOW phlegm.. Coughing has NEVER stopped!!"

For Sinusitis "I’ve taken this Azithromycin Dose Pack twice a year for about fourteen years for sinusitis and never had a problem with it, always worked great without any side effects. When I started taking it this time around the headaches were so bad and the diarrhea and loose stool is unbelievable so after four days I’ve stopped and won’t take the last pill that’s how bad the side effects are this time. I know one day more for the last pill would be silly to stop but I just can’t handle the side effects any longer. The brand that the pharmacy gave me this time is a different brand so that may have something to do with it, the pharmacy I used for years has closed down so the other one has different pills or brands for the same meds. I’ve always said a pill is just a pill and it doesn’t matter what brand it is but after this I changed my mind completely on that."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "Woke up with that tingle I get right as Strep starts to set in. 12 hours later I'm in considerable pain. Went to Urgent Care for a strep test. It was positive. I asked the PA for the Z-pak because I needed something I didn't have to take 4 times a day and would work quickly. The Pharmacy filled my prescription around 10:45pm. Took the first dose as soon as I got in my truck. It is only 3.5 hours into the first dose and my throat is almost normal. My stomach feels a little funny but I will take that over strep pain any day."

For Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "It worked fast and I felt better after four days, but my side effects were diahrrea two hours after each dose and itchy skin with a rash. Now 2 weeks after finishing the prescription I have an infection in my mouth and throat -- oral yeast infection or thrush is listed as a side effect."

For Sinusitis "re: side effects, I forgot to add to the comments I just submitted that while my stomach felt a little weird the morning after my first dose (this being 12 hours later) I was prepared to eat plenty of probiotics, which I have been doing. I have not had any problems; I am really pushing the yogurt and kefir. I did feel extraordinarily tired but not debilitated, and I was extremely fatigued from nearly 5 weeks of being sick, so the trade-off is meaningless, and it's improved after the first mega-dose anyway."

For Chlamydia Infection "I had pharangitis and chlamydia which was a double whammy. This is my second time taking these meds. The first time not really any side effects but this time when I was on my last pill to take I have terribly bad vomiting and diarrhea. Couldn't even keep water down. The next morning I puked after drinking water went to sleep woke up and felt better. Drank water again and am getting that pit feeling again. It did cure everything though. This is to be continued..."

For Pneumonia "Started 5 day dose pak on 1/17/18 at 8:30 pm. I had been running a fever for 6 days by the 17th. I finished my pack the evening of the 21st. I am still spitting out green every 20 minutes or so when awake, but no fever today. I had diarrhea the first evening only. The last evening dose, I noticed tiny blister like rash about the size of kosher salt on my chest and back. I still have them today the 23rd and am still sick,"

For Bronchitis "My doctor gave this dose pack have chronic bronchitis it help very little went to doctor again gave me the same thing I had this bronchitis for a month it's a little better but not gone now call doctor again third time got a office tomorrow this dose pack is junk send it back to India"
