Was not sure why the doctor chose to switch me to this med from Effexor XR which I had been on for years and it was working well. Because I was in the hospital I chose not to fight the system & took the med. Within 1 week I noticed the worst of my personal side effects....weight gain....Within 3 weeks I had gained almost 20 lbs!! I discontinued the med & returned to Effexor. My understanding is that weight gain is not a big side effect, I disagree. Since the med stays in your system for a week or so after you discontinue I continued to gain weight. I gained almost 30 lbs before it stopped. As with all weight gain med or otherwise gained; I haven't been able to lose it yet.I really didn't notice any mental problems.

I knew that I was Atarax non-responsive (as well as one of my son's). We could drink an entire bottle and not experience any benefit to our problems. We would only be stuck with the side effects. I knew that if Atarax had no effect within the 24 hours following the initial dose, to stop it right away. I'm a doctor, but that had no effect on my treatment. I pleaded with the psychiatrists to stop giving me Atarax (because it was the only meds that they put me on), but they refused, so I was stuck on it, until I played the game, and told them that I was much better, and they let me go. My whole body has become a playground for Atarax. I'm now taking enormous doses of Lasilix to evacuate the Atarax, and slowly having my bipolar meds reintroduced.

I took this medication for 10 years (5-10 mg before bed) to help me sleep following a neck injury and couple surgeries. I had a terrible time sleeping and it did help me sleep, however it has made me much more of a nervous person than I was before. See my other side effects listed. For these reasons I cannot recommend it. However, to-date I have not been able to find something to help me sleep with my neck pain. Nothing else has worked and I live on 3-5 hours a night. I should also mention that I take no other prescriptions and only took narcotics immediately after surgery. That is a road you should avoid at all costs.

A little hypotension. Not untolerable though. No edema. No cough. My BP stays within a range of 125/70 and 116/60. Good place for it to be. Don't know if I'm cured but my BP is definately controlled. No reason for anyone to not try it. If the side effects are too much, then tell your doctor. No reason for people to tell scare stories like what they experienced will happen to everyone. Personally, I think it's helping save my life.

I used to be on OrhtoEvra and all of the symptoms I'm experiencing with the LoLoestrin were 10x worse. I've only been taking it for 2 weeks so far and I hate the side effects. I workout a lot and I don't have the strength or drive to do so anymore, mid work out I'll lose all interest and drive. I spoke to my doctor about all the side effects, he said it usually takes 2-3 months for your body to adjust to it. I've also started bleeding in between periods. I'm absoluetly not enjoying being on this pill, I'm going to stick it out for a month at least and see what happens.
