One day I had a muscle spasm and tightening in my upper back that was so debilitating that I thought I was having a heart attack. It lasted about 30 seconds during which time I considered calling 911. However, since I have low blood pressure and had a recent checkup, I waited. My neck and shoulder muscles had been bothering me for several weeks, while my hip had also been sore. I recalled that joint and muscle pain were side effects of Actonel and called the office of my rheumatologist. I was told to discontinue the medicine for 3 months. It has only been a few weeks, and my neck pain is easing. I was told to do exercises to ward of osteoporosis, but my joints were always too sore to do very much. I am a little concerned that the comments of others on here (which are no doubt well intended) might discourage persons from seeking PEP treatment for HIV exposure due to the potential side effects.If you have an exposure talk to your doctor ASAP and certainly within 72 hours. In my case the doctor suggested that I at least start combivir and consider stopping if the side effects are bad - because it is not a decision you can put off until later! You are not certain to have bad side effects like some have reported. I hope this helps.

I can't say whether it did the job or not because it was used as a preventative measure along with another anti-biotic that was much kinder to me in terms of side effects. All I can say is that this combination did not result in my wound getting infected. After a week they took me off this drug and left me on the other anti-biotic as I felt like I was being tortured. If you do experience this kind of side effect with metronidazole I would stongly recommend begging your doctor to find something else that works, because the benefits don't outweigh the price you pay in taking it.

Release of pressure after 60 mins, then side effects followed each time! Tremors while Falling asleep (muscle and body shaking all over), increased anxiety, no appetite, inability to sleep, increased heart rate.

I certainly don't have any of the side effects listed here which is slightly odd. However I can't tell if this medication is working at all. 6 days into the medication same lower abdominal and back pain as when I began. Im lost and unsure its doing anything at all but after reading all these comments am scared to continue...?
