I'm still not sure if the bloating was actually a side effect or an allergy to the drug. I was very uncomfortable for about 72 hours with the bloating. After finishing the prescribed amount (twice a day for five days, 500mg) the bloating slowly subsided. It did help the pneumonia though.

I've had migraines since age 7. Maxalt used upon the beginning of a migraine would make the headache go away and within an hour sometimes two I was feeling much better. My doctor suggested Topamax which is finally available as a generic. Amazingly the number of people who are reporting hair loss is incredible! A migraine lasts a few hours, your hair loss may last forever.Luckily I had a lot of hair, it has thinned considerably and I just hope that now that I am no longer taking the medication that this horrible side effect reverses.

I went to see my doctor and told him about my discovery. First he was a bit reluctant but in the following meeting he already told me that he had read about Lipitor’s psychiatric side effects. He therefore put me off Lipitor completely and suggested a much lower dosage of 10mg Crestor. In addition, he prescribed a new medication: Niacin, beginning with 500mg the first month and then increasing to 1,000 in the second (with the ultimate aim of reaching 2,000 in the fourth monthly).Bottom line:When I discontinued Lipitor two months ago my LDL reached 165. This week my blood test indicated an LDL level of 124.So, after being helped by folks on this website I hope I can be of some help to others who suffer from statin side effects. Therefore, here is what I’ve done during the past two months:- Took 500mg of Niacin during the first months and 1,000mg during the second;- Took a total of 10 Crestor pills (10mg which are equivalent to 20mg of Lipitor) per month, i.e., one every three days.- Two natural pills of Phytosterol.- A cup of tea made of olive leafs.Now, I do believe that when I reach the maximum intake of Niacin in two months (2,000mg) the LDL will drop from 124 to 100 (the level required for diabetics).Good luck, folks!

At first I attributed the symptoms to age since they came on gradually, but finally I was feeling almost crippled with neck, hip, and back pain. I have been an active person--tennis, rowing, skiing etc, and I was having trouble just walking. I visited my doctor several times with each of these complaints. He said heart irregularity was not serious enough to worry about and told me to cut down on drinks with caffeine. Joint aches were explained away as arthritis. I just had a chest xray at my request because of aches and tightness in my chest--negative results; Dr. told me to increase Prilosec--I was taking OTC 20 mil 1 tablet a day--to 2 tablets. By coincidence I had just read the recent NY Times article on dangers of some acid-reflux drugs including Prilosec and decided to stop taking it without consulting Dr. Today 3 days after I have stopped taking Prilosec I realize that I am free of joint aches and feel like the person I was before all of the symptoms started piling up on me. I knew something was wrong and that something had to be done, but it never occurred to me that Prilosec might be the cause. Out of curiosity I went online to check side effects, and I was stunned when I read this report. I am really distressed that my doctor never questioned Prilosec as a possible cause and instead advised me to increase the dosage. As many have already commented, I will find my own way to deal with acid reflux but I will definitely stop taking this drug.

Side effects for me are drowsiness during the day even when taking the tablet right before bedtime. No sex drive. Weight gain of about 10 pounds.
