This drug got rid of my headaches, but had some very weird and dangerous physical side effects for me. I was not cautioned to take it ONLY before going to bed, or in a situation where I could immediately lie down somewhere. I took the drug when I got a migraine at work once, and experienced side effects that made me look like I was drunk! I had to be driven home, and nearly got fired. I had to get a doctor's permission to return to work, was ordered to take a drug test, and had to get all kinds of documentation from my physician stating why I was taking Placidyl. Plus, there were rumors that I was an alcoholic or a drug addict! It was horrible.

I started at 250mg Depakote ER 1x/night. After a week I took myself off of it due sleeping 10-13 hrs. a night and still feeling extremely tired/drowsy during the day. Due to the severity of the daily pain and migraines I was having and at the recommendation of my Dr. I went back on it w/in 2 weeks. I increased the dose from 250mg to 500mg after a week. I figured that since I was incapacitated by pain every day maybe the Depakote would help, and that even if I was sleeping all day/night, at least I wouldn't be in pain. Besides extremely vivid dreams, the extreme tiredness is the only side effect that I've experienced.

I decided on implanon because my periods were so painful I couldnt walk around without a hot water bottle pressed to my stomach and had constant chunks bigger than sandwich pickles. For a week, sometimes two I would be house and bed ridden which was effecting my working life. I have had a dry mouth since a couple of days after the implant and the first week I did have some dryness downstairs but I added extra things like nuts to my regular diet to promote vitamin E and oils to my skin and body. With the extreme bleeding side effects I think anyone who gets implanon just so they don't forget the pill and complains is just ridiculous. With all the complications you need to be aware of what you are gambling. I had 4 periods in 6 weeks previous to getting the implant put in so I felt like I had nothing to lose by gambling on the hopes that implanon would maybe fix or regulate my already wacky and heavy painful cycle. There are plenty of other forms of contraception for those who cannot deal with the idea that it effects everyone differently and you don't just get what you want from it. It's not a present its a means to an end for those who are willing to risk the chance of those side effects.

Weight gain is the only side effect I've experienced. I'm thin so the extra weight hasn't been as issue for me.

I feel bad about all those that have had major side effects. i did have a lot of wt gain, but the convinience of the shot is worth it to me.My practitioner has not mentioned getting off of it,so was surprised to hear the comment of not being on it as long as I have, but dr makes sure I'm taking the right amount of calcium thru supplements and regular food. Starting to get vaginal dryness, but chalking thatmore to starting to get perimenopausal
