When I first started taking it, I confused the awful side effects for feeling more depressed & more anxious, so my doctor upped my dose. I was taking 300mg/day for about a year. Then I just couldn't handle the headaches it caused, so my doctor lowered my dose gradually over the last two years or so. Since taking Effexor, my life has been miserable. Can't sleep when I want to, can't stay awake when I want to, lethargic, dizzy, blurred vision, extreme fatigue, extreme increase in appetite. If I go more than two hours past my dose, I can't even see straight! My lips become numb. It's horrifying!

The sexual side effects are not nearly as bad as Zoloft, which was the initial reason for switching to it. I have had some libido come back, but also horrible anxiety, suicidal/homicidal ideation, strange crazed rampages always late at night. Used to take Xanax just a couple times a week at bedtime to help sleep. Now I need it every day and can't leave the house without it. I eat non stop. If I am not completely full to the point of uncomfortable I start to get panicky and binge again (No purging). I also sleep all the time. 10 hrs. at night, then a 3 hour nap at least during the day. It's ridiculous, but I get so tired that I just can't stay awake.

Synthroid and its generic counterparts are the only approved treatment and we really need research into other treatments. The side effects are not reported often or accurately. If they were this drug would be investigated.

First night taking it was bad. Very, very, bad. Became randomly very suicidal all night until I fell asleep. Split personality the first night. Was out of it. Not good. The next night, and following nights have been fine. No more split person or bad thinking. Numbness and tingling often. Dry mouth, loss of appetite. This has not made me sleepy after the first night, which makes me sad because I have difficulty falling asleep now since taking it. But, I can think!!!! Before taking this I could not even think and now I can actually look up the medication I am taking!!!!! The only reason I am not satisfied is because of the first night and constant forgetfulness, difficulty with speech and most of the other side effects. Overall I am very glad for this drug and to write this review that no one cares about, lol. I just want to say to anyone looking up this drug or reading this, I fully encourage you to take it by all means- but make sure you have a person with you the first night. Not a
