This has been a year of living hell. I have actually been binge eating on Topamax even though I had lost over 120 pounds on Atkins prior to starting Topamax. I have tried to atribute by side effects to other blood pressure meds I am on, but have finally come to the realization that the little pills I have been religiously taking to make myself better have turned me into a drooling idiot. The one positive is that my migrains have gone away, but there may not be much mind left to feel pain.

Let me just warn anyone contemplating taking this medication: Seroquel makes you FAT and KEEPS you fat! I started this medication at a size 4 with a 24 inch waist, now, two years later I am a size 10/12 with a 32 inch waist.No matter what I do or how healthy I eat I simply can not drop the weight.I was put on Seroquel as the anti-epilectic medication I take (Lamotrigine) has a rare side effect that unfortunately has affected me. It makes it impossible for me to sleep, so my doctor gave me Seroquel and yes, it does make you sleep like a baby. But it is really not worth it when there are other medications out there.I am now seeing the Dr. to switch medications and discontinue Seroquel.I will wait for three months (after being off of it) and then come back and post my results. In other words, I will let you know how long it took to lose weight after discontinuing Seroquel.

Do not take this drug. Report your side effects if you do! Especially the mental ones! This drug cost me well over ten grand!!

I wanted to give some of you hope and some good news. Its been 8 weeks since my terrible problems with the side effects started. I have been for an MRI after 7 weeks. The symptoms started to dissipate coincidentally around the same time that I went for the MRI. The MRI showed some remnants of white spots which the Dr. attributes to hardening of blood vessels, etc. She does not want to be drawn into anything that may indicate the medication could have done that. I of course have no doubt that it was the remnants of white matter lesions that were indicated and if I had gone for an MRI within the first week - we would likely have seen the white lesions. Anyway - I feel myself again - thank god and all of the symptoms have now gone with some slight challenges with my vision and the very odd and rare occurrence of a slight bit of light headiness at time. I think all of this will disappear after the next few weeks. So hang in there as no one comes back to tell when they feeling better and I am certainly feeling better after thinking I was going to die. It takes time though.

Most of the side effects I am experiencing are not bad enough to make me stop taking the med, and I'm not having the side effects that would cause me to stop (nausea & vomiting - I have emetophobia). What I have noticed is that the constant anxiety I was having is either gone or muted....as in, I can feel that there is anxiety there but it is not affecting me. I am having less suicidal feelings and thoughts since starting this medication. My feelings of extreme hopelessness have mostly disappeared. I have eliminated caffeine from my diet because it seems to cause anxiety symptoms & I am not a big drinker of alcohol but I have had no issues with the occasional social drink. Overall, this drug is working well for me so far. My depression and anxiety are both long term health issues and situational. I have hope that after the situational issues are resolved, I may be able to drop from 300mg/day to 150mg/day.
